    I’m proud to be the winner of two Travel Media Association of Canada awards: first in 2008 for a Cultural/Historical feature, a cover story for Air Canada’s enRoute inflight magazine on exploring Tokyo through the sense of smell. And in 2012 for Best Environmental/Responsible Tourism feature for my Globe and Mail article on Mustique.



    I created the Top 40 Foodies Under 40 annual feature in Western Living to make the magazine a leading voice in defining a Western Canadian culinary movement, and identifying its key movers and shakers. It’s fun to watch Top Chef Canada and see a lot of familiar faces who we were ahead of the pack in predicting as stars — including Canada’s first Top Chef Dale MacKay, who was on our inaugural list.



    I was the founding editor of the Canada’s Best New Restaurants survey in Air Canada’s enRoute, which I oversaw from 2002-2006. Each year it became more ambitious: first a top 5, then a top 10, then we added a list of runner’s up, which morphed into a round-up piece on notable food trends for the year, with the addition of a complementary country-wide hotels piece, researched while the writer crossed Canada visiting restaurants. The restaurants package was nominated for a James Beard Award in year one.
